Kindermusik® Summer Programs 2008

Your child will enjoy singing, movement, song games, playing instruments, creative movement, focused listening, finger plays, chants and exploratory time. This wonderful program engages the curiosity, natural musical gifts, and sensitivity of very young children.

Peek-a-Boo, I Love You (Newborn to 18 months)

Learn new songs, lullabies, and ways to say "I love you" using baby massage, Mother Goose rhymes, literature books, and chants. Activities include instrument play, American Sign Language, and special parent-baby dances that stimulate baby's eyes, body and mind. Materials include "Peek-A-Boo, I Love You" baby book, CD, Duck Wash Mitt, Baby Duck Gertie Ball, and Poster. Meets weekly for 45 minutes for 5 weeks. Book, CD, . Child and parent/caregiver attend together for 45 minutes.

Busy Days (Newborn to 18 months)

Set your baby's day to classical music. With a little more Tchaikovsky in your "Twinkle, Twinkle" repertoire you'll discover new ways your baby benefits from the classics as you both develop an appreciation for the world's most respected music. Each lesson features new activites and songs you can sing for all the places you go together-the store, the playground, the doctor, and more. Home Materials include: Book, CD, Village Cage Bell, and Poster. Child and parent/caregiver attend together for 45 mintues

Creatures at the Ocean (18 months to 3 years)

Embark together on a seaside adventure introducing your child to seagulls, crabs, dolphins, octopi, and whales. You and your child will enjoy delightfully engaging music and movement activities. Beach fun is the focus with beach ball play, pretend-kite play, and more! Includes a snack time, a story time, and an instrument exploration time. Meets weekly for 60 minutes for 5 weeks.

Zoo Train (18 months to 3 years)

Tag along this summer with a traveling zoo-train; bring your own stuffed animal for the petting zoo, wear long white socks on your hands for polar bear paws, and learn about real animals in the zoo. You and your child will enjoy music, stories and other activities that will stimulate your child’s emerging sense of imagination, coordination, and ability to learn more words. Meets weekly for 60 minutes for 5 weeks.

Confetti Days (3-5 years)

Your child will love the story about Monkey and his friends as it unfolds from day to day on a felt storyboard. Songs, instrument play, active listening, snack time, movement and pretend play are all part of the fun!! You will enjoy a craft together with your child during the last 30 minutes of class. Materials include home CD featuring songs from the program, five full-color picture folders including musical notation to songs and suggestions for activities at home, a story kit, a pair of Confetti bells, and arts and crafts materials. Meets weekly for 90 minutes for 5 weeks.

On the Road (3-5 years)

Your child will love our imaginary trips On the Road to vacation destinations on a bus named "Van Go." Songs, instrument play, active listening, snack time and movement all happen along the way! You will find yourself reliving your childhood with your child-each song is likely to revive memories from summer's past. At Home Materials included: hardcover book, wooden frog guiro instrument, CD with lyric book, and home activities poster. Parents/Care-givers join their children for the last half hour of this 90 minute class.

Around the World (5-7 years)

Take an imaginary trip—exploring the exotic cultures of Germany, Japan, Africa, England, and Mexico. Play the native instruments. Drape sheets over cardboard boxes and sing over the German mountain tops. Toss peanuts on the floor and bring good luck to one's home in this Japanese custom. Send messages in Nigeria with "talking drums." Home Materials include a CD, Arts and Craft materials,Picture Folder set, and Travel Bag. Meets weekly for 2 hours for 5 weeks.

HOW TO REGISTER: Because signatures are required, registration must be done in person at Great Northwest Music in the Town Center Plaza on G Street. Classes fill fast, so register early!


Prepares your child for future music training. Each class in every age group focuses on a specific foundational music concept including steady beat, tempo, dynamics, articulation and vocal skills.

Provides activities for you and your child to enjoy daily at home. Home materials are included with every class providing CDs, literature books, and activity suggestions.

Increases your child´s musical potential. Studies have shown that early active music making increases your child´s ability to learn music throughout life.

Stimulates your child´s development. Music is the only activity known to engage the entire brain. Kindermusik classes stimulate development not only in music but also in language, physical coordination, socialization, emotional stability, and cognitive skills.

Prepares your child for preschool and kindergarten. Your child will attend classes once each week. This is a wonderful opportunity for socialization, sharing and participating in group activities for short periods of time to prepare your child for half day or full day programs.

Provides opportunities for networking and friendships with other parents. You will meet and get to know other parents. Kindermusik classes have fostered many birthday party invitations, play groups and lifelong friendships.

Facilitates strong family relationships. Music is a great relationship builder. Kindermusik is family oriented and provides opportunities for you to spend quality time with your child. Children grow up so fast. . . spending time now making music together will help create the strong family relationships that provide a foundation for your family as your child grows older.
